I would like Lightroom to show me which folders and collections an image is already in.
ie when I select an image the folders and collections that the image is in are high lighted in the Left panel.

Did you know that if you click on the collections badge in the lower-right corner of a thumbnail in Library, you'll see all the containing collections?

I didn't know that, Thanks John.
Although I would still prefer what I suggested. Instead of having to click that tiny little thing for every photo in a folder, with my suggested enhancement I could very quickly work my way through a folder with arrow keys and see which shots were in which collections.

Agreed that your suggestion would be more convenient.

I actually spent a week tidying up a mess of catalogues that I've created over the years. It's only in the last two years that I've gotten more tighter with things and maintained a pattern(talk about burn to learn). For that entire week, I would click on a file and the same thought came to mind - wouldn't it be great to..do exactly what you're suggesting. The only real was(as far as folders go) was to right click and select "Show in Explorer". So eventually, I had like 20 explorers opened at the same time. I'd be honest to say that I always wondered, how come this doesn't already exist but really saw the need for this when I was merging catalogues(with the same photo shared across multiple catalogues). The End. Vote in(There's just 2 of us)

Until Adobe adds the feature here are two suggestions that can help somewhat:

#1 Use View Options to show folder name, then you can at least see the endmost part of the folder path name when looking at photos in collections and determining  where the files are located.

#2 Use Quick collection markers as a flag: set a desired collection as the target collection and then you will see the grey quick collection symbol in the grid view thumbnails (imperfect as it can only work for a single collection at a time but you can change the target without leaving the original folder/collection shown in the grid view and the markers auto update when you change target.

Perhaps adding 'Collections' and 'Publish collections' to the view options would be an easier feature to add?
