Hi. I want to purchase LR6 and a Solmeta G-Max GPS for my Nikon D610 DSLR. Question, does LR6 have the ability to take the co-ordinates from the GPS and implant them onto Google Maps, so that when the photos are finished, I can view my Journey on the Map?
I have a Nikon and the Solmeta G-Max. The GPS mounts on the camera and writes the coordinated directly into the metadata. On import, LR reads this metadata and it becomes a part of the metadata stored in the LR catalog file. All images with GPS coordinates display in the Map module There is no mechanism in LR to extract the GPS information into a KML file. Some enterprising Plugin developer might have created such a plugin but if so, I am not aware of one.
I use an ordinary gps (even my phone) and create a gpx file, which I then use to encode the gps coordinates into the photo. Advantages of my scheme -- one less device to keep charged, and easier to tell if the GPS is "totally whacked out" (which can happen for all GPS devices). Disadvantages: one more step, and you have to deal with synchronization issues between the camera's clock and "GPS time."
