just delete your all temporary files and please clean your memory and also improve your RAM . when you start your Photoshop just open it  with your Administrator ...use 32bit photoshop.

Hi Siddarth, thanks for your response. I am using a new I-mac is your reply still applicable? If so can you give me instructions how to delete temporary files? Thanks.

Hiya Josh,

You can trash all of your preferences by holding down CMD, OPTION, and SHIFT while launching PS.  You'll get a dialog asking if you want to delete your preference file.

That said, Josh, this is a brand new machine?  Have you ever had Photoshop on it before?  What are you doing when Photoshop hangs?  Could you describe in detail the steps you're taking and what you're seeing?  Also, what language OS are you using?  Which language of PS?  And do you have any non-standard fonts installed, particularly fonts obtained over the internet?

Thanks,
David

Hey David,

Thanks for your response. It is a brand new machine(I have had it for a few months). It is the first version of photoshop. I must admit I have had this problem for a while - just haven't got around to doing this. The program is working perfectly. It just does not respond when I want to close and shut down - which leads me to force quite every time. Everything is in english. Yes there are many fonts I have downloaded from sites like dafont. Please let me know what you suggest?

Many Thanks,
Josh

Howdy Josh,

Siddharth may be correct, particularly since a single corrupt font can really mess with your system and many of the fonts you get online are, uh, well, not well-made, to say the least.  This is particularly an issue when dealing with fonts for Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Punjabi, etc.  I would strongly recommend pulling all of these downloaded fonts from your machine and then trying again.  You may need to rebuild your font cache -- instructions here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html

Please let me know if this helps and we can go from there.

Thanks,
David

Hi David and Siddharth,

Thanks very much for your reply. I have been away from my mac - for work - for a while now. I will follow your instructions as soon as I get a chance. Many thanks, Josh.
