Photoshop: Transform 'handles' won't go away, no matter what I do

This problem appeared all of a sudden. One minute I was working on a file and everything was fine, the next minute the handles appeared, and now they won't go away, even though I didn't select Transform or change ANYTHING in any of my settings! I've since checked my "Extras" menu settings and the ONLY item I have selected to show in there is Pixel Grid. Even when I turn that one item off though, those handles still show around whatever layer or Layer group is selected in the Layers pane. The ONLY way the handles disappear is when I turn OFF the Extras entirely...which I hate to do because those Extras are so usefu!I also tried restarting both Photoshop AND my computer....nada. Still the same problem. This is a very annoying issue, so I'm wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions about how to get rid of it? I suppose I can always do a fresh reinstall of Photoshop but if there's another way around it, I'd rather try other things first. I would really appreciate some input on this issue. Hope someone out there can help.BTW, I'm using Photoshop CS6 on an iMac with OS 10.6.8 installed and plenty of memory. Thanks!

Check the settings on the move tool, which probably has "Show Transform Controls" enabled.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you please tell me how to do that? I have no idea how to edit the settings for individual tools.

Thanks!

Click on the move tool, look at the options bar (the settings for the tool across the top of your Photoshop window/screen).

oops...never mind! I figured it out (temporary brain lapse there!) And it worked! I have no idea how that got selected, but I'm glad the fix was as easy as that.

Thank you!!

You're welcome.

And as a future guide: if a tool misbehaves, check the settings carefully. :-)
