Photoshop: My PS workspace doesn't display

I have a Photoshop CS5 trial version installed and I am competent with the PS suite, but my workspace will not appear no matter how many times I attempt to create a new workspace. I'm guessing there is a fault with the software, but am hoping you might be able to assist??

What happens if you select Window>Workspace>Reset Essentials ?

Still no workspace. It's quite the tease - it's all there bar the workspace, which as it turns out is a fairly big deal!

Have you tried restoring your prefs? http://adobe.ly/PS_Prefs

in cs 5.1 and cs 6 :
goto Edit>perferences> performance
then uncheck use graphics processor
