Help with quick select tool

I am new to photoshop. I am trying to edit one part of a photo. I used the quick select tool to select the part of the photo I want to edit. Then once I change one thing, say for instance the color, and I want to change something else, I have to reselect the area all over again or else my next change will effect the whole photo, not just the part I want. There has to be a way to keep that area selected and continuously edit it. What is an easier way to do this?

Try copying the selected area and pasting it into a new layer that way you can edit just that one specific piece

Save the selection in refine edge or CC in the select and mask.

I was playing around with it and I did "Add mask to selection", which seemed to work. Hopefully this is another way of doing it? Thanks for all the help!
