Lightroom Classic: Help new internal handdrrive and catalog is empty

I hope someone can help me!!! Ok, I have a Mac I had an old operating system Mac OS X 10.7.5 so I tried upgrading, I had to install a new internal drive into my Mac Pro tower I was told to upgrade the operating system on the new drive well my LR catalog is on the old machintosh HD I’ve tried going to it and the LR is empty not only is it empty but it asks for a license which I have purchased but I don’t temeber it why is this happening? Should I copy everything over to the new drive? How do I do that would that help with my LR? I literally have thousands of sessions in that catalog and I was working on several weddings.

Need a bit more information; however, the typical process would have been to backup your old drive completely, and then install the new drive.  Link the two drives together and restore from the old drive to the new drive.  Then install the upgrade for Mac OS.  This would have brought all of your program settings and data over to the new drive.

Performa search on the Apple website, they have some very easy to follow  step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

I'm a former Mac Genius and my recommendation is that you find an Apple dealer to help you. It sounds as though you could get in over your head and lose data. You need good backups and probably some technical help. Good luck.

I have to agree with David. I can do quite a bit on my own with the Mac and Lightroom as I teach it. However, when it comes to hardware and software upgrades that involve multiple steps I have a go to person who does that for me. The time lost plus frustration is not worth it. Since you seem to earn your living using the Mac and Lightroom in post, it would be part of maintenance costs. I had a printing press owner tell me once that 30% of his time goes into maintenance of equipment to manage expectations. I adopted his philosophy. DIY is often not the answer.  Hope my rambling doesn't offend you. Barbara

Really the best advice is to hire a Macintosh tech to help you. You can put the new OS on the second (new) drive, then use Migration Assistant to transfer all your data to that drive. Migration Assistant is in the utilities folder of your new drive after you install the OS.
