I tried to upload my lightroom cc to my dropbox app so that I could edit from my second laptop. Long story short my old laptop is loosing in the color department and I don't have an external  calibrator but I do have a new macbook. Instead of risking porting everything over I figured I would copy it to dropbox first and make sure it would work on the new computer. It worked great for two days and now all of a sudden it is saying that I have a conflicted copy and all my presets are gone etc. It also will not open on my original computer.

I did backup a copy of the catalog but that also seems to be missing my presets. I saved them so I have them but when I go to install them again lightroom is not pointing me in the right folder direction. Basically I think that everything is in the wrong place and I have no idea how to fix or repair it to restore it. This all happened after I started "smart sync" from dropbox.

I am a photographer that has to deliver images to clients did I just royally F myself????  Please help!!!!!!!

I think I’ve read that you can’t use Dropbox in this way, as they have turned off the ability to host open files or run apps from there. Bring the LR folder back to your Pictures folder (you didn’t say Mac or PC) and launch it from there (option/alt key-navigate to LR folder).

I tried that (I have a mac) but since it already created some sort of duplicate everything is pseudo messed up. I have all my files and presets semi recovered but now they are not syncing with the cloud app and I seem to have multiple catalogs. It looks like the one I have open is not the most recent one because some of the edits on it are not the most current version of the image. I don't think I am doing a good job of describing my issue really but basically I feel like dropbox screwed up all my files and I am not really sure how to go about getting everything back to where it needs to be without risking loosing more data. It keeps creating new catalogs for some reason

Call a Mac tech to help you set things right, I can’t help this from afar. Do a search for one, or ask at your local photo club, Apple Store, etc.

Copying to Dropbox is ok, but you have to wait until the file is completely synced on both computers before you switch to the other computer, otherwise Dropbox creates conflicted copies. Your backup's probably ok though.

Smart Sync is more likely the key here, as far as your missing presets goes. If it's whipped those presets off to the cloud and not left a copy on your local hard drive, that would explain why Lightroom can't see them. Looking at Dropbox's instructions, you should be able to right-click on the Lightroom folder and choose to store the files locally.

I'm guessing you have "store presets with this catalog" enabled in Preferences > Presets, so they'd be stored in a Lightroom Settings folder next to the catalog.

Have you tried to manually copy your presets from their Appdata folder?
