Photoshop: Healing Brush "Simulate effect of adjustment layers" preview the adjustment, but doesn't apply them to the source layer

When using the healing brush on a dark image with a brightening adjustment layer over it to make defects easy to see, the brush preview shows the original dark pixels. Selecting the option to sample all layers applies the brightened pixels to the original image and isn't useful.

I'd like to see an option called "Simulate effect of adjustment layers" that applies the effect of adjustment layers to the preview, but doesn't apply them to the source layer. That would be useful.

Have you tried the option for "Current and Below"?

I did, but it doesn't do the job. The brightening layer is above the image layer, so it's ignored. I want the brightening layer to update the displayed preview of the brush, but not have the brightening effect be applied to the pixels being healed.
