Photoshop: Healing, and spot healing brushes behaving strangely

CC 2020 Photoshop 20.0.3, Macbook Pro, OS 10.14.6.

Healing, and spot healing tool brushes behaving strangely. This began abruptly 14 days ago. The healing brush will no longer drag, spot-click only, is no longer constrained by the Shift key, and has become almost useless.

The Spot Healing brush drags but now creates a "high-lit" area over the brushed area—not unlike the one in the content aware selection tool. The results often cause more damage than healing.

Have you tried resetting the preferences? https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Resetting the tool may help if you want to try that prior to all preferences: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/basic-troubleshooting.html#tool

Yeah Guys, Thank you. That seemed to do it. Been using PS since V5, embarrassed that I didn't think of that simple newbie fix. Forgot that in pre-OSX, trashing the prefs was the first thing we did.

A helpful part of the video Johan sent was the finder-option-go thing.

Also found that lib was full of prefs from CS 5, & 6.
