Photoshop: CS6 polygonal lasso tool auto-completes unexpectedly

Having issues with polygonal lasso tool.

When in mid selection, the dotted line disappears - though I am able to continue making a selection, the selection seems to jump and completes itself. Also, when plotting multiple points around rounded edges, it completes the selection, as if I were to double click. The plot points are far enough away, so this should not happen.

Furthermore, when I try the "Add to Selection" feature of the tool, I make a selection to add to the areas that were affected with the above issues, it seems I am adding to the selection, but when finished, nothing happens. This feature is not working altogether.

Other than those issue, I love the new CS6 creative suite. Nice improvement and a valuable arsenal of tools for my daily tasks :)

Pretty much the same thing happens quite regularly, it has become very frustrating when i have just spent 10 minutes making a detailed selection and have to start again.

It also seem that when this does happen, it happens a few times over a period of 30 minutes and then freezes completely, restarting the program seems to fix the problem for a few days but then it happens again. it has just completely crashed a couple of times as well, not sure if thats at al related though.

Other wise like Paul said everything else is awesome and love the new features, but more importantly the revision to many old features across the CS6 creative suite.

You shouldn't be using the polygonal lasso for a selection that takes 10 minutes to make. Use the Pen tool instead.

Are you using a Wacom tablet?

If so, make sure you have installed the latest driver.

Same issue here for me. CS 6 is turning in to a buggy mess. Wish I hadn't upgraded.

Lasso tool just COMPLETELY STOPS working for me when I'm in the middle of a detailed outline. Not using a Wacom.

Never happened until I upgraded to CS6.

Figure it out, Adobe.

Hi. I have been having this issue too since a year ago. Also, sometimes nothing happens when I am clicking my first point with the polygonal lasso tool. I'm using a mouse.

This is driving me crazy! Been dealing with this issue for a while now. Will they never fix it? Using the Pen tool instead simply isn't the solution.

Had the same pre-mature selection problem ,
Seem to have it corrected by Going to Image/Mode then change to 16 bits/channel.
This will revert to 8 bits/channel on next project but still seems to work correctly.
Hopefully with fingers crossed.

It is a pretty serious bug and it's as if nobody is even listening or aware of it on Adobe's end. Very disappointing!

The problem got much worse in MacOS 10.9. We are investigating with Apple, but there are just a lot of problems on MacOS 10.9 (affecting many applications)...

This comment was written 28 days ago, where is Adobe now in terms of fixing this? I use the lasso tool a lot for architecture and if this isn't fixed, I'll have to go back to an OS that works.

Please try the solution in this document:

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/p...

Installing the plug-in from the document above should solve:

• menus, panels, or dialog boxes turn white and become unresponsive
• keyboard shortcuts stop working
• lasso tool selections close prematurely
• Photoshop becomes unresponsive

Let us know if this solves your issue.

Try using CC 2014, or install the plugin in CC to work around some of the known MacOS bugs.

What happens when you get this problem on a PC? This is a solution for MAC only. Furthermore it's a pluging that was integrated into Photoshop a while ago so this solution is defunct.

I realize this posting is old but I just tried this today and it seems to have fixed the issue on a Mac running 10.12.6 using PSCC 20.0.7 with an Intuos Pro Wacom PTH-651 tablet. So far, so good. Just remember to restart after installing the plug-in. Good luck!

Yes but it had no effect. I do not use a Wacom but I am on a iMac running OSX. It really is a weird bug... I'm the only one I personally know who has experienced it. The team members around me all have the same or similar machines but none of them have ever had the same problem. I also have a twin machine at home where I also experience the same bug. The issue has persisted for me in the last 3 versions of Photoshop (CS 5.5, 6 and now CC) although it was far less frequent in 5.5. Basically the polygon lasso tool allows me anywhere from 5-20 clicks before it freezes and then auto completes (and trust me, it isn't because of my click speed). There are also times when I need to click 3 or 4 times before it even begins a selection, or the selection line is visible on the screen.

I appreciate your help, I really do love Adobe products, it's just this one little thing can be so frustrating at times as I am sure you can imagine.

Thanks, Sean

Hold on - When I installed the plug-in yesterday I checked to see if it was working and it said it was but the problem persisted. I am embarrassed to admit I did not reboot at that time. I did however reboot this morning and, in the hopes of not jinxing it, it seems to have solved the problem. I can't express how I stoked I am by this! Thank you so much for your help Jeffrey! Much appreciated!

I have the same problem , lasso tool just stops after about 8 clicks, then auto-completes when I try to continue. So the Intuous Pro I just bought is now useless. So frustrated...

The above fix does not work because I get the following message:

"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file."

The plugin isn't a file that you open, it's a plugin - that you install in the plugins folder.

I am on windows 8.1 and I have the problem with this tool. I didn't found any plug-in or fix for windows. The only way I found to avoid this is :

When I use the polygon tool and the dotted line disappears (after placing a plot point), I click and move the pen on the tablet without release the pressure like a "click & drag". When I do that, the "dotted line" reappears and I am able to continue the selection.

I hope this will help.
