To see the possible "Banding" in 8-bit mode, I have made a file with gradient tool and two layers of level. and wanted to compare it with a 16-bit mode. But the outcomes are the same.

surprisingly when I save the 16-bit file as a JPEG it is exactly what it should be.

I’m not sure what you are trying to do. You can’t save a 16 bits file as jpeg, because jpeg does not support that. If you try to do it anyway, then Photoshop saves an 8 bits copy.

it's a simple example as most photography websites use to show that "banding" won't occur in 16-bit files. but when i change my file from 8-bit to 16-bit mode nothing happen.

and i know that jpeg files are 8-bit. both 8 and 16 bit files look the same on Photoshop screen but are different when saved as a jpeg.
