Lightroom: Grid key shortcuts intermittently not working or affecting wrong photos

Since the Lightroom 6.4 or 6.5 update, I'm having frequent problems with keyboard shortcuts in grid view. Most of the time, they just stop working - for example, the P/U/X don't work for flagging images and the [ ] don't work for rotation. Occasionally, they start operating on the wrong images - if I select an image and hit ] to rotate, a different unselected image will rotate. Needless to say this is annoying and makes the X key too dangerous to use.

Keyboard shortcuts elsewhere (like the G to return to library grid view) seem to be OK, so it's just the grid view shortcuts that are affected, I think.

Exiting the application generally resolves the problem, but it eventually returns with further use.

There are quite a few threads about similar problems, but the only suggestion I've seen is to nuke the preferences file, which I will try.

Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a solution?

I'm on Win7, nothing special.

Am I really the only one having this problem lately?
