Photoshop: Grid alignment and distribution

I'd like to see the alignment and distribution features expanded. A grid function would be great, allowing you to evenly align and distribute items in a grid layout. Right now this has to be done manually (to the best of my knowledge anyway).

I'm imaging two options for this feature:
  1. via dialog where you punch in your column/row count, scale/dimensions etc
  2. on the fly, via the align menu bar. where you just roughly lay out the grid and photoshop does the rest. just like what align and distribute does now.

Smart Guides should allow you to opt/alt + drag items and evenly space items with snapping.

Ah yes, but that doesn't allow you to define start/end placement and then distribute x in between does it? I don't remember.

I also thought of another more dynamic methkd. A grid align/distribute transform. Where you drag the transform box around as per usual but it aligns and distributed each object accordingly. Sort of like a text box.
