Lightroom Classic: Gray rectangles instead of photos. Can't edit or delete.

I import photos, but only gray boxes show in lightroom. about 5% of the photos to load, but the rest are just gray. I can't delete the "images" from lightroom. If i look in finder, I can see the .CR2 files in their folder, I just can't access them in Lightroom. The work around is import them a 2nd time, but name the folder something different. For my work flow, i usually have a subfolder called "raw" within the client folder. It no longer imports to any folder titled raw, it has to be some different word for it to work. SUPER disruptive since I upload to 5 or 6 clients a day.

Greetings Christine,

Do you know if you are using a case-sensitive version of the Mac OS? https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/71357/how-to-check-if-my-hd-is-case-sensitive-or-not

Thanks - APFS shouldn't be case-sensitive.

A Preference File will survive a Lightroom uninstall/reinstall. Sometimes weird behavior is corrected/cured by resetting the preferences.

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.
2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.
3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.
4. Close Lightroom.
5. Restart Lightroom.

Does the behavior continue after resetting the preferences?

Can you share a screen capture of your Finder window showing the complete path for one of these folders named "raw" that shows the bad behavior?

For my workflow, I import all the raw photos into this folder, then sort them to the specific clients at export. Is the issue because I want to keep importing to the same folder? This was not a problem with previous versions of Lightroom.

Christine,

Thanks for the screenshot. Have you Optimized this catalog recently? (File>Optimize).

One more test to do before we turn this over to the engineering team is to double check your user account.  Create a new users (System Preferences>Users & Groups) and log in as that user and attempt to replicate.  That will rule out a corrupted User account on your Mac.

Those are both good ideas I hadn't considered. I will try that and report back.

I am running macOS Mojave version 10.14.3. My Lightroom Classic CC is up to date.
