Elements 12: Help with Offline Activation

I recently upgraded to Photoshop Elements 12. I got it home & learned I must have an Internet connection to get a serial#.--I do not have Internet @ home. I went to my public library and got the serial#,. which I then went home & installed. Then I was told the software would stop working in 7 days unless I connected to the Internet to register--I DO NOT HAVE INTERNET @ HOME!

I was forced to return Elements 12 to Best Buy, which is unfortunate since I waited a long time to upgarde and was excited about doing so. I'll go back to my old copy of Elements for now, and look to grab version 10 or 11 in the meantime. Otherwise I use a new product.

It is an invalid assumption on the part of Adobe to believe EVERYONE HAS INTERNET @ HOME! Making Internet @ home a prerequisite for using Adobe is a big mistake which will come back to bite Adobe. I will not use a software which forces me to purcahse a service I do not want---& I'll be sure to let others know about my experience with the Adobe product.

What is worse, is there is no way to get a human being from Adobe to help me. This is silly, & evidence of still more myopia from Adobe which is going to prove bad business.

Hello e Berube,

Sorry for the trouble with not having an internet connection. There are ways to get Elements activated offline using some of the silent/enterprise installation methods.
For others visiting this post, the system requirements for Photoshop Elements can be found here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photosh...
One of them mentions that an internet connection is required for activation.

I'll help you get it setup on your machine over email since we'll be dealing with your serial number.
Expect an email from me soon.

Regards
Pete

Hi Pete
I bought Photoshop Elements 12 with the assumption that I could use it offline. I've noted your comment about activation but had assumed it only meant initial activation the first time I used it. I have a very limited data allowance and wish to work offline. Is that possible? I had a trial for Elements 11 and then seemed forced to buy Elements 12 at the end of the trial which I wasn't happy about. Please help. Regards,
Carol

Yes, once you have completed the initial activation, you can use the product offline. Some features of the application require an internet connection (for example, the Map in Places), so you would just have to skip such features.

Pete,
I would need your assistance on a similar issue for my PSE 12 first time activation that doesn't get through.
The product is registered at the Adobe website but when I try and use the product on my PC the activation process gets stuck and I cannot use the soft.
Many thanks

Hi Massimo,

I've asked our support to contact you for help with activation. Be sure to check your email and spam filters for the email from support since I didn't see your phone contact # in your account.

Regards,
Pete

It would appear that the activation issue is problem. I have had installed PSE9 for many years. Recently I upgraded to PSE12. Installed just fine, input the serial No. The program detected the earlier version and successfully converted organiser. My issue is that on going into Editor, it requires that I register the product within 7 days through my Adobe ID. I've had my ID for many years with little issue. On completing my ID details and password - the box goes grey and the little spinning thinking wheel will spin for hours. The only way to close it down is through task manager. On going into my Adobe ID separately and trying to register the product - it states invalid serial number. I have now been trying for 4 days - I have left several requests for Adobe help but won't be holding my breath for a response.

Looking at your account, I can see both PSE 9 and 12 registered. So you may be getting the invalid serial number error because it is already in use.

As to the login issue you are encountering, the application is probably not able to connect to the internet because of something like anti-virus or firewall settings. Try checking these to see if they mention blocking Elements, or preemptively granting them permission to reach the internet or disabling them proactively altogether.

I have disabled my virus/firewall but the response is the same. On further looking at the forums I have found numerous others with a similar issue. I think it has to do with Adobe Application Manager - I have been speaking with someone from support but due to time issues it is taking much longer to sort out. But THANK YOU for responding. This is all just very frustrating.

The Adobe Application Manager is used to install application updates, it doesn't involve signing in. So I'm not sure what the connection could be. But if you close it down entirely (from the Task Manager), then it couldn't be in the way. Or you could even uninstall it.

I'm also frustrated. I have deleted PSE 12 until a solution can be found. Until then I'll continue to use ACD PRO

Because of issues with online activation, I returned my Adobe software and selected something else. It is too bad, because I had always been happy with Adobe. However, this actually worked out better in the long run because now I've found better software.

Thanks for all who offered me help.

Guys I have similar problems getting Help with Activation of my PE12. No response from the Chat Support - apparently they can't support PE12 (only 13) any more even though I purchased 12 just 3 months ago, I am still waiting for a response a week later to my forum post. The software is still not working. Is there anyone who can provide assistance please?

This is a great conversation that's separate from the main one, so I created a new conversation to continue the discussion.
