Lightroom CC: Getting started with a 1.5TB USB3 drive fails

I am trying to set up Lightroom CC on my Surface 2 book with 256GB of disk space 8GB memory. There isn't enough memory for my 650GB picture database. I added a USB 3 disk and I keep getting the same response each time, the number of pictures or the size of the saved pictures does not change after the first error. Please help.

I tried just telling Lightroom where to place the sync material, but it took too long that I thought if it could be done directly it might be faster. So I copied my backup from my desktop (just the pictures not the name of the directory which is some kind of hex sum.
That didn't work either, so I formatted the disk and started from scratch. That doesn't work either.
It would be nice if having a sync'd backup on my desktop, I could simply transfer it to a portable drive and carry it with me. Can't use the same drive since it is a bulky 5GB drive I've had for a while.

The volume "Traveling1GU" is not connected. You would need to reconnect it in order for Lightroom to move the photos to your new volume.

That is the problem, it was connected at all times and responding properly to Windows explorer.
I bought a new 1GB drive and it's arriving today. If it was the drive, the new one should work perfectly.
Could it not have enough space on the C drive? Why is it always stopping at the precise number of files after it has written out .2GB of them?
I'll let you know how I fare with the new disk.

Mystery solved:
1. I added new files, but never told Lightroom to "Forget" the old disks that hadn't work. So after the first failure, it never worked because it didn't find the old file. Now I know you can have multiple disks with full copies of the LR database of images.
2. New mystery: After completing the backup to the USB disk, I cannot play video which really prevents me from organizing the material. It works fine on my desk top. What is going on?
I submitted the crash (it did when I tried to play a video I took in Disneyland) report to Lightroom.

rogsoni,

I looked, using the ID you've registered at this forum and do not find any crash reports. Was the crash report you received an Adobe report or a Windows report?

Could be. I'll try to reproduce it and let you know what happens and whether its a Microsoft or Lightroom dump.

Thank you for your help. Your message reconnect the Traveling 1GB volume gave me the hint of what to do. I had to tell it to forget both of the previous volumes I had connected. It was simply timing out?

look under _removed_ The first one is a forwarding address to the second one which I use everywhere to not have to change addresses when I change vendors.

No crashes reported under 2.2 under either of those addresses.  Wonder if it was a Microsoft crash reporter?

Your 2 MB image limit prevents me from sending a image showing you that video clips don't have a start button so cannot be played in LR.  Do you know what causes this. It would be nice to be able to preview and sort inside LR instead of having to do it on my desktop.
Thanks
PS. I know how to reduce the quality and the pixel count, just don't have the time today and tomorrow I'm off to Japan.
