Getting false "connection failed" messages when saving to AWS file gateway

We've been having an intermittent problem where trying to save anything from Photoshop to an AWS file gateway over SMB.

When the save dialog opens, it appears to try connecting to the server, which then fails. But this warning is incorrect: the server is still connected and it works fine with other applications and in the finder. The save dialog in Photoshop has a "Connect as" button, but if you click this the connection is actually severed.

The workaround is *not* to click "Connect as" and restart Photoshop.

Running PS 20.0.2 on Mac OS 10.13.6.
