Gaussian Blur corrupts photoshop CS6 files

I applied a Gaussian Blur to one layer. This was after having successfully applied blurs before. The blur effect has corrupted the file with white cut outs throughout the image on all layers and channels. This is the second file that has been corrupted. I can't even undo the damage by going back in the History Panel or restarting photoshop without saving the file. I work with large illustration files.
Please can you assist as I use this filter a lot. I see in the forums that this problem started in version 5.5. Has it ever been resolved??

Hi Wallace,

I am having the exact same problem with Photoshop CC. Did you ever resolve your problem? I'm tearing my hair out!
