File saving errors.

I am frequently getting the following error when saving PS files "Could not save "...xxx.psd" because the file is already in use or was left open by another application" however the file is only open in PS and I have closed every other application.

That is just passing along an error from the OS.

Some other application does have the file open or in use -- at least that's what the OS thinks. That could be the OS itself (for previews, metadata, etc.), another application (InDesign used to have that problem, and Quark), or a utility (poorly written antivirus programs have done that in the past).

And you don't mention which version of Photoshop you're running, or which OS version you are using.

Sorry for the omission - CS6 and Windows 7 Professional.

No other programs are open so I don't understand how this is possible.

The issue did not exist when I installed the program and used for the first.several months. About a month ago I made some changes to the preferences and pointed the software to another drive rather than my C drive for storing cache. It doesn't really make sense that the two are related but it's the only thing I've changed.

The Windows explorer is open.
Some utilities (antivirus) are open, I hope.

So something may have changed in another program or utility that is leaving files open, or opening them when you view the folder in the explorer.

It appears that this may be related to the autosave feature of my NAS due to the large file size of the project I'm working on it seems as though the error occurs because it is writing to the local drive and the NAS at the same time. The strange thing is that I've been using autosave all along without issues.
