Free Transform - Resize layer using the keyboard only

The idea is pretty simple, instead of solely relying on the mouse to resize a layer during Free Transform you could also resize it using the arrows on the keyboard.

Free Transforming a layer and using the arrow keys as is moves the layer by 1 pixel increments.

What if it was possible to hold down ctrl/cmd and then if you hit the up arrow key it would stretch the layer 1 pixel upwards. Holding down ctrl + shift would increment by 10 pixels.

On each resize nudge the dimensions of the layer would display beside it just like it does when you resize with the mouse.

This would certainly be useful for UI designers, resizing shapes.

Maybe the modifier keys can be used to resize the layer proportionally and resize on all sides for image resizing.

What do you think?

Once one has moved the focus to one of the values in the Options Bar when Transforming one can move the focus from one to the other with shift/alt-shift and increase and decrease the values with arrow up/down (with or without shift-key).

True. It requires using the mouse initally though or if you want to change the dimensions again after having left the options bar, is there a keyboard shortcut to focus in on the width field? Also, resizing from the options bar resizes the layer on both sides, unlike using all arrow keys in my proposed method, which would be like resizing when you grab hold on to the side of the free tranform bounding box with the mouse.

The options bar could incorporate some of this functionality. Instead of using the up and down arrows for width, use left and right and resize in the direction of the arrow. Same for up and down keys when resizing the height.

That depend on the Reference point location.
But I don’t think that can be set via Keyboard Shortcut so changing it would take another click.

That's right, thanks! Yes, I'm all for keyboard shortcuts, may not seem like a big deal at first to a beginner but it increases my speed tremendously.

Brilliant idea! Ctrl+T then Ctrl+Up/Down/Right/Left arrows resizes the layer 1pixel on the desired side +Shift resizes by 10pixels & Up/Down/Right/Left arrows move the layer 1pixel +Shift moves it by 10pixels
What a powerful way of handling things specially fitting 1000+ photos for badges
