Photoshop: Free Transform - Ability to set default unit of measurement

Free Transform's default is percentage, which is never useful when working with measurements. It slows down production when every time I need to transform an object, I have to change from percentage to pixels, inches, etc. It would be great for the user to be able to set the default to their preferred unit of measurement.

When I click one on the free transform corners, I get a small black box that defaults to units in inches.

Try "units & rulers" section in prefs.

Alternatively, right click (option Mac) on the ruler

I should clarify my original post, this is in regards to the options bar where you enter specific measurements for free transform (please see attached screenshot). I keep all of the prefs you've mentioned set to pixels, but free transform in the options bar always defaults to percentage.

It defaults to percentage whenever I a)start photoshop, b)select a new object to transform and c)switch to a different file and use free transform.

Are you saying: Right click in those fields and change to inches and it does not remain inches?

Yes, I do understand that. The units in that section should probably be saved as a user default.

For me it only reverts back to % when I restart. It retains otherwise during my session of Photoshop between multiple documents.

Correct. The unit I choose will be retained for that particular object during that session, but any new object added or created within that document during the session will default back to percentage. After restart, all objects in all files are defaulted to % . It tends to get very confusing in a fast-paced environment, and when working between multiple documents... typing in a transform measurement, not realizing that I have not set that particular object in that particular file to pixels, when it is actually at the default of %. I just feel that having the option to set a default unit in prefs, specifically for the free transform tool in the options bar, would be a very useful and time-saving feature.

I believe that this intentional because it makes recorded actions more useful when they work with a percentage instead of fixed size. Same for repeat last transformation command.

Understood.

Actually, I disagree. It is not always more useful for a recorded action to work in percentage. I have a case right now where I would rather the recorded free transform be in fixed units, in this case 800 px for both width and height.

^That makes sense. Same for Image Size actions.

Perhaps it should be an option for when user is not using actions.
