There is a know bug when using the generate image assets feature. This bug cause 2X smart objects to export low-quality, blurred assets. I've tried several file types after suggestions with mixed results. This does not fix the solution and we still had problems. However, I have found a solution that seems to be working 100% at the moment.

If you drag an asset(regardless of file type) into your open PSD from the file location or from bridge, Photoshop automatically scales it fit the document then automatically turns it into a smart object. These automatically created smart objects seem to be the problem.

Our current solution is to open the asset in Photoshop and drag the image/graphic from the open document into the PSD you are working on. When you drag a graphic from an open document, Photoshop does NOT automatically create a smart object. Once the graphic is in your document you can manually right click the layer and turn it into a smart object. Adding assets to a PSD using this method has been generating crisp graphics every time.

I really hope this discovery helps adobe fix this bug soon.

Part of the issue too is that if you mix resolutions with dragging in SO's, PS will resize the SO without any indication. It's a huge problem for many retouchers which has been determined to be "working as intended."
