Folders in LR4

I have LR4 (Windows 7). When I look at the Folders section in the Library module, I see an alphabetical list of what seems like every (sub)folder contained in my My Pictures folder. This list is not in a folder structure that mirrors the folder structure on my hard drive (which is categorized at the top level by yearly folders), like I expected after seeing some tutorials. Is it because I imported my catalog through Photoshop Elements Organizer (I have been running PSE7)?

I would like to move photographs from past years onto a networked drive, and I am confused about how to do that now!

Right-click on one of those folders and choose Show Parent Folder and see if things start reflecting more what your hard drive looks like. You may need to do it more than once. depending on how "deep" some of those folders are in the folder structure.

If you go too high in the structure and include things you don't need to, like your username or the Users folder above Pictures or My Pictures, you can do a right-click and choose Hide this Parent and the folders underneath will become unattached in the LR folder structure.

You're not actually moving any files or folders around on your hard-drive by these operations, you are merely telling LR how much of the folder structure to show inside of LR.

Thanks so much!! This is exactly what I needed to know. This makes it so much easier for me to manage where my files are.

....Now, I need to actually move stuff around...
