I have 5 images ( All taken on a tripod) literally the only thing changed was the focus so I could focus stack them together.  Lightroom say's there is not enough imaging matching to merge the pictures....

There is NO focus stacking Photo Merge option in Lightroom, only Panorama and HDR and HDR Panorama.

PS.  I wish there was a photo stacking option

In LR:
Select all stacked images
Edit in > Open as layers in PhotoShop

In PhotoShop:
- select all layers
- Auto Align
- Auto blend

Works like a charm

More detail on Focus Stacking in Photoshop (after selecting shots, and Edit In/Open as Layers in Photoshop)
  • Go to Photoshop, Select all layers (shift-click), go to Edit menu and select Auto-Align Layers, leave “Projection” on Auto
  • Edit menu/Auto-Blend Layers. Leave “Blend Method” on Stack. Two good choices here:
    • Seamless tones and colors
    • Content aware fill transparent areas
  • Save to pop image back into Lightroom, continue with finishing edits

As Lightroom does not have focus stacking, I am not sure what software you are using. Photoshop perhaps?
