Photoshop - png files not opening, can't launch Fireworks

Hi,
I am trying to open a .png file. I had the file association set up top open it in PS; that didn't work. I get an alert that says: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
So I changed the file association to Fireworks. I am now getting an alert that says "Your user privileges do not allow FW to update your registry. Launch and Edit with Dreamweaver will not work proper until Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges."
I am the only user on this, my private, computer (Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit), SP1. Checking the account type, I am the Administrator.
Thoughts????
Thank you.
Cheers,

Odds are that they aren't PNG files, but some other filetype with the wrong file extension. If you post them somewhere that we can download, we can take a look and see what they are.

For Fireworks issues, try https://forums.adobe.com/community/fi...

Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I am working inside Canvas, my college's learning management system, so can't download the image. Their thought was the file was corrupted (they got the same "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file." message.) with PS and to request the student retry saving-->sending the file.
I will visit the FW forum.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Marie
