Lightroom: Find closed eyes in group photos

As a wedding photographer, I often have to choose the best photo from a series of almost identical photos of a group of people. I would like to see a feature in Lightroom Classic that would indicate automatically when an eye is closed. This would greatly simplify and speed up the process.

Patrick, have you tried syncing a selection of photos from Classic to LRCC, then going to https://lightroom.adobe.com/ in your web browser and seeing if its Best Photos feature will choose those photos with eyes open? I think it would be interesting to know, even if in practice it might not be ideal to sync entire shoots and rely on AI.

Wow, John, that actually seems to work! I will certainly test it thoroughly a few more times before I rely too much on it. But that simplifies the process a lot.Even better, of course, would be if the feature were available directly in Lightroom Classic. Reetesh, it would be great if you could keep us informed.

Thank you both for the answers!

That is interesting, Patrick! I had no idea if it would work, but it's the kind of thing that AI should do for us and it would be good to hear your findings after testing it with more pictures. You know you can save the suggested best photos as a new collection, which will appear in Classic?

Unfortunately, further testing has shown that the function is currently too unreliable.
My workflow:
  1. Create a collection named 'group photos'
  2. Assign as target collection
  3. Open collection on Lightroom online
  4. Add images with shortcut 'B'
  5. Sort with 'Best Photos' functionality
  6. Flag selection as picks
  7. Check in Lightroom with the compare tool
  8. Remove images with shortcut 'B'
  9. Repeat starting at step 4.
Unfortunately, photos are often selected in which a person has clearly closed eyes, although better pictures would be available.

My wishes:

  • Better reliability
  • Integration in Lightroom Classic (select group > right-click > highlight images with open eyes)
