ELEMENTS 12: Filters that don't recognize selections.

The new filters that you've added to Elements 12, while entertaining, do not recognize selections, and will transform the entire picture. All of the old ones do stay within selection boundaries, so I imagine this is an oversight. Thank you in advance for looking into this.

I have a cumbersome fix for this, but it really should be automatic. I make a duplicate of the layer, invert the selection, erase everything in the inverted selection, run the filter, and then merge the layer down. But it ought to be easier.

Do you mean the new photo effects (not filters) available in guided mode ?
If so, put a copy of the selection in its own layer (Ctrl J).
Hide the visibility for all other layers and appy the effect.
When finished, show your other layers back.

Not just photo effects. Maybe in leaping from version 9 to 12 I missed some innovations in 10 and 11, but if so the bugs ought to be out of them by now. In the filters, under "Sketch" the Comic and Graphic Novel filters do not stay within selection boundaries.
