Lightroom Desktop: Filtering and editing 5000 photos - speed is key - does not work well with cloud

I need to go through 5000 photos from a trip. Speed is key. I need only desktop work, no mobile no cloud, just local hd work, as speedy as it can get. When started with Lightroom I got the impression it's fast enough but now I'm frustrated as it takes forever to see details in photos as everything is being downloaded from the cloud for each edit. I wish I had more control in speeding things up.

Right-click on the album and choose to "store album locally". That'll cache the originals.

OK, I've added 4513 Photos to an album but there is no right click option to store album locally.

You're right-clicking on the album? If it's not there, make sure you're running the current release.

It's Lightroom Desktop CC purchased through Apple App Store.
I wonder if I should switch to Lightroom Classic

Go to Help menu > System Info and check the version number. That should offer some clues.

Things seem better now that sync has finally completed. I think what happened is that though the originals where available to Lightroom it actually used the copies from the cloud. I gave it all available space and checked to keep copies of all originals and previews locally in local storage settings. And now after it finished the sync it is working again in reasonable speed.
