Fill Opacity Not Working With Drop Shadow Effect

After creating a text "Drop Shadow" effect, I selected "Bending Options" to take the "Fill Opacity" down to zero in order to create a transparent watermark. The text disappeared as expected, but the whole shadow effect remained (i.e., text outline was not removed from the shadow). Tried this with "Outer Glow" and it worked perfectly. The workaround I used with the shadow effect was going to Layer>Layer Style>Create Layer to put the drop shadow on its own layer. Then Ctrl+clicked on text layer to select the text, moved down to the shadow layer, and pressed delete. (Then pressed Ctrl+D to deselect of course.) Be less keystrokes if the old way could be used. I included one of my latest photos as an example of the effect (yes, I know the outer glow effect would have worked better). Watermark's in lower right.
Another problem came up during the editing: the spot healing brush wouldn't work, but did in prior photos, and will probably work in others. So, the crumbs stayed for now.
