So Photoshop just crashed for no reason and I lost something I had been working on for hours, is there any way to recover it? I forgot to save and the version I have now it basically nothing/ PSE 8 always auto saved my files, does PSE 10 really not do that too?

No, there is currently no way to recover the document except for the last version you saved.

No, PSE8 did not have file recovery, either.

I am not an engineer but I would like to comment on your statement: Just because you don’t know the reason does not mean there was no reason.
You may want to look into a couple of trouble-shooting routines like System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.), possibly faulty fonts, corrupted preferences ... to minimize the risk of future occurrences and improve your workflow.
