File Renaming Sequence

I'm relatively new to Lightroom CC and importing new files. To follow my previous method of file naming in Aperture I want to use 'custom name' 'sequence' so that the sequence number increases everytime I import a file. For example tkah_45900, followed by tkah_45901. Instead Lightroom does this tkah_45900-2. Also if I want to include the 'year' it takes that from the date the image was taken, not the year of import. Any help on this welcome.

Hey Tim, take a look at this article -  I think it should help with your question about the numbering.  The "Image #" field, which is only available during import, is the one that should give you a running sequence across all your imports.  It's catalog specific though, so if you're using multiple catalogs, it won't be global across them all.

With regards to the year, I do not believe any of the date fields use the current date.  I believe they are all variations on the date the image was taken.  As a workaround, you could insert a custom text field and enter the year yourself every time...or just add the year as text in the preset and change it when the new year rolls around.

For example, to end up with "tkah_2016_00001", you could use the filename template "{Custom Text}_2016_{Image # (00001)}".  Next year, you'd just update the "2016" text in the template to "2017".

And finally, I know everybody's workflow is different, but I can't come up with a reason why you'd want the import date in the file name.  Can you share the purpose of that?
