Elements 12: Face labels lost when photos moved

There is a problem in Photoshop Elements 12 where faces labelled with names lose the tag on the face but retain the tag against the photo itself. This happens whenever photos are labelled then moved from one folder to another. Originally we thought this was a memory problem which could be minimised by regularly restarting the computer. However further analysis seems to suggest that labels are lost, regardless of whether the photo is dragged to a new folder or moved by cut/paste.

My wife loves Photoshop elements and its face labelling feature and has labelled many thousands of photos. But she is finding it extremely frustrating when she returns to a previous photo only to find that the face labels are gone. This is a serious problem limiting the utility of the otherwise great Photoshop Elements program.

Hi,

Can you please check if View > People Recognition is checked by default?
From what I understand, the face tags remain associated with the images, it just the face rectangles that do no show?

Thanks

Andaleeb,
Sorry for slow reply, I responded to your email immediately but just realised that I needed to post to the site.

Yes, I have confirmed that View > People Recognition is checked by default. And you are correct, the name tags remain associated with the images but the face rectangles and name tags no longer display on the face, ie. you know who is in the picture but not who is whom.

Two additional facts that might help:

1. If photos are cropped in Photoshop Elements, the face boxes retain the face labels but move relative to the cropping rather than remaining attached to the faces.

2. If the photo is edited in Photoshop CS6 for any changes, Photoshop retains the original photo with face labels intact, but the edited copy loses both the face box and its label (but retains the name tag, as previously described for moved photos).
