hi i would love to be able to export a preset from light room as a LUT just like you can do with the new Photoshop. is this a possibility? would love to see that happen.
there are so many awesome presets for lightroom and i would love to find a way to make them 3dluts specifically cube luts. please please please make this a feature for the next lightroom.

It's pretty straightforward to make a plugin that exports an approximation of a preset as a 3D LUT, but I wonder how useful it might be, since many of the adjustments applied by LR presets cannot be faithfully represented by 3D LUTs.

3D LUTs can only represent LR adjustments that compute a pixel's new color independent of any other pixels in the image (e.g. Exposure or Contrast). 3D LUTs cannot represent multi-pixel adjustments, those adjustments that compute a pixel's new value by looking at other pixels in the image. I believe these adjustments are: Clarity, Sharpening, Noise Reduction, Post-Crop Vignetting, Grain, and Lens Correction. (I'm not 100% confident about this list.)

I'm not well acquainted with how LR presets are used in practice, but I notice that many, if not most, of the built-in presets use those multi-pixel adjustments. For example, the Beach Bypass preset uses Clarity = +20, Sharpening = 25, and Color = 25. I don't know how important those settings are for a "typical" preset-- when I apply Beach Bypass to a sample photo and then reset Clarity, Sharpening, and Color, the change seems hardly noticeable.

So the obvious question is: What uses do you have in mind when you ask for the ability to export a preset as a 3D LUT? Do you want to use that exported preset for video or for other still-image processing apps like Photoshop? Given the limitations on the LR adjustments that can be exported, how useful would be export functionality?

I just released the first version of Export LUT, a Lightroom plugin that generates 3D color lookup tables from develop presets. If you try it, let me know how well it works for you (or doesn't).

Being able to export LUTs or .look files from Lightroom would be a great tool for filmmakers who are familiar with color correction/grading in Photoshop & Lightroom. Would be amazing to use homemade presets from Lightroom in Speedgrade.

i would love to be able to export my presets to 3dlut cube files even if all the parameters were not in the lut such as grain, vignette, etc. if adobe could come out with a utility that would allow me to import all my LR presets and then allow me to export them to 3dluts aka cube files that would be amazing!
