There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.

I have reset the preferences twice for PS and it doesn't work. It was printing fine early today and now it won't. Its only in PS, all my other apps print just fine with the same printer. I have a canon mg6120. I have also reloaded the printer drivers and nothing helped. I only have one printer and of course is the default. Nothing I do works. I have also updated PS today before it stopped printing. This is PS cs5 version and Im using a MacBook Pro with Mavericks. Laptop is brand new and everything is up to date on it.

1) Uninstall & reinstall the printer driver
2) Three-finger salute to kill the Photoshop prefs (do this immediately after 1 - if not, photoshop will pick up the old, corrupted prefs, and save them back to the driver preferences and you'll need to do step one again).
3) Do step 1 again, followed immediately by step 2 because you may have forgotten to do this exactly the first time.
4) Create a new document. Open the old document. Select all. Copy. Paste into new document. Print.

Give that a try. Let me know if this helps.

I completely deleted the printer drivers and its prefs and reinstalled everything and made sure all updates were applied to PS and printer drivers. I also restarted PS and reset the prefs right after. Seems good now. Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

David,

I have the exact same problem. PS CS5, Mavericks, Epson 4900. Followed your instructions. Didn't quite work. The print dialog comes up, but if I change any of the print settings, the image in the print preview does strange stuff and I'm back to the dreaded message.

Please Help! I'm in the middle of an important job!

Have you updated your Epson driver from Epson's website? They had to release a bunch of fixes for MacOS 10.9.

I'm getting this error. I have uninstalled, reset my preferences in Photoshop and I am unable to print old photos I've worked on previously. I can create a new document, draw on it, and print it. I opened a photo that I had never worked on in Photoshop and was able to print. Any old photos that I had worked on previously are the photos I am getting errors on. This is a photoshop issue not a printer issue. Has anyone had a fix to this?

This is actually an issue with your printer driver - it is giving an error when Photoshop tries to load the previously used print settings.

Try holding down the spacebar when you go to print, and Photoshop will skip restoring the previously used print settings. This does mean that you will have to reset and double check all the printing parameters for your document though.
