Photoshop: Problem with CS2 preferences

I downloaded and installed CS2 however today I made a change in Preferences in Photoshop and now the program doesn't come up but issues a Microsoft report. I think I put in "C:\" for plugin or filter location. I tried to reinstall but that didn't help, I uninstalled it and reinstalled with the same result. How can I find and correct the preference error?

Also, how did you just install CS2? It's about 8 years out of date.

Restore your prefs. Don't set an additional plug-ins location.
