When using the brush mode in eraser tool to delete the background, I lose the soft edges upon saving. The image reverts back to hard edges. How can I fix this problem?

GIF does not support full transparency, only one color that can be 100% transparent.

If you want smooth transparency, you will need to use a different file format.

It is really frustrating when I'm ready to save the image with the soft edges only to have it revert back to hard edges.

My biggest problem is when I remove the background around a person's hair. That is why I like the soft edges.
