Lightroom: Enable disclosure triangles in Keyword List while Keyword Filter is active

I have a fairly extensive keyword list (2500) and I simply cannot remember all of them but I can easily guess the general area and start a search. This initial search usually returns one or more high level terms in my hierarchy.

While the search/filter is active I want to be able to drill down further into the hierarchy and determine either the term I want to apply or that I need to add a new term in the hierarchy.

The only way to do this now is frustratingly slow. You have to remember the spot you are interested in, remove the filter and then manually brows back to that point to see any of the included terms.

Some method to further examine and apply terms while a filter is active would be very useful. I seems to me that enabling the disclosure triangles would be an ideal solution. I am also aware that the implementation is probably not as simple as the solution sounds but I think that it would really add to the power of Keyword List and Filter Keywords functions.

Louis,

I am struggling to understand what you are trying to do. I can expand and contract triangles while in the filter. I can also apply keywords, view images with the specific keyword, modify the keyword, add new keywords in its hierarchy-all with the filter active.

Can you give us a step-by-step example?

Hi Rikk,

I think a better way to describe what I want is to have a way to switch from searching with the Keywords Filter to browsing the results of a keyword search

For example I have some images of a college campus and I want to apply several keywords.

building
-school building
---classroom
---dormitory
---gymnasium
places
-school
---college
---elementary school
---high school
---university

If I use a filter of "school" I get the following and while the disclosure triangles work they only reveal items that match the search term.

building
-school building
places
-school
---elementary school
---high school

What I want to do is from the filtered view be able to drill down further in "school building" and select dormitory as the keyword for one image or see that I need to add "administration" to my keywords.

If you select one of the filtered keywords before removing the filter, that keyword remains selected and is still highlighted after. You can immediately start browsing the nearby keywords at that point. I think this solves your problem.

Ok that would be great, but I can't figure out how to make that work. After I select a keyword in the filtered list when I click the "x" to clear out the filter it leaves me in the "Filter Keywords" entry box which is highlighted and the Keywords List returns to same view that was showing prior to entering a filter string.

Is there another way to clear the "Filter Keywords" entry without clicking on the "X"?

Ok, I see what you are trying to do now. Let me ponder it and see if I can come up with a solution
