Elements Organizer and Bridge: Freeze in Adobe Photo Downloader when you click Choose

After installing the Camera Raw 6.5 update, when using Elements 9 Organizer or Bridge CS5/5.5 to import images from your camera or card reader, the Adobe Photo Downloader will become unresponsive if you click the Choose button to change the Save Location. This issue does not affect Elements 10 Organizer.

Sirs, You do not make it easy to actually find a place to send you a question concerning the functionality of your products. I have Photoshop CS5 running on an iMac and a Macbook Pro with OS 10.6.8. I recently downloaded and installed the most recent updates for Photoshop and Bridge. Immediately following the updates, the Photo Downloader stopped working. Downloader functions until I attempt to choose the location where I want the files to reside. Then the program freezes and the only way to move beyond this roadblock is to "force Quit" the Downloader. The malfunction is exactly the same on the iMac and the laptop. How can I get the downloader to function again?

Hi Folks,

Two days ago I did an Adobe PS5 software update and since then my Adobe Photo Downloader is giving trouble. It will open and load thumbnails from my card reader but freezes when I try and choose a location. I am a professional photographer and use this feature every working day as part of my work-flow to rename, annotate and convert to DNG. I have staff using the same workflow. This is a critical failure of service and product. I believe there is online discussions surrounding this problem. Please fix asap.

My photo down loader in bridge won't let me select a destination folder and when I try all the buttons become in active and I have to force quit out of the application.
ADOBE you make it very difficult to report a problem, this is not an issue that a forum discussion can remedy, this is a serious bug in your software.

I just downloaded and installed Camera Raw 6.6 update. This solved the issue of freezing when choosing a destination for files being imported and converted to DNG.

I'm using an educational version of Bridge/Raw, version 4.0.5.11. I was able to update it once in the past, and that's when I began having this problem. When I run the Adobe updater now, it does not find Bridge 6.6, it tells me I am up to date. Does this mean I am stuck with this problem and am not allowed to update any further, or is there some way I will be allowed to update or download a fix for the version I have?

You are not going to be looking for an update to Bridge to 6.6. Instead the issue is fixed in the Camera Raw update 6.6. However, this update is still in beta testing, although a release candidate is available. This is not available through the automatic update (as this update is not yet released). You can download and manually install the update by getting it from labs.adobe.com.

Hi, I can't get Photo downloader to work from Bridge. I have tried the solutions suggested for this problem ie., creating a new Bridge CS5 folder in User library, which worked until I reset Bridge Prefs and Cache. But now the downloader is freezing again, even after creating a new CS5 folder in the User library which had worked the first time. I also tried changing the APDPreferences file permissions in the root directory to read/write, but this didn't help.
This problem has occurred since updating to Camera raw 6.5.
I'm on a Mac running Snow Leopard.
Thanks

I have given up on Bridge and the downloader. I did update and all the junk that has been given on this page and nothing worked. Short of re-installing photoshop I do not know what to do. At this point bridge freezes up the entire computer. So it goes into the trash as a piece of junk.

If the whole computer is freezing: you have a problem with the OS, a low level driver, or the hardware. Applications simply cannot do that.

Well got bridge going though uploader still freezes. Problem is I have about 500GB of files and the load was to much for bridge to retrieve. I moved half to external HD and all is well.

Chris,
The whole computer is not freezing, only the application photo downloader. See all the other posts above . . . It is an Adobe issue, not a Mac OS issue or a MacPro issue. You will also see the "fix" that various individuals have come up with, (including myself), which is to discard ACR 6.5 - which is when the problem began and revert to an earlier version of ACR.
In other words, specifically, the problem is with ACR 6.5 and photo downloader interacting. See the comments of Brett N above, " . . .the issue is fixed in the Camera Raw update 6.6. However, this update is still in beta testing, although a release candidate is available. This is not available through the automatic update (as this update is not yet released). You can download and manually install the update by getting it from labs.adobe.com. . . ."

Photoshop (Ver 5) photo downloader has ceased to work and is greyed out - will not allow me to save images in forders? The photo downloader launches ok and the images are displayed in the window but I am unable to select/create folders etc as everything is greyed out and as a result I cannot import the (Raw) images
All camera raw updates etc are up to date. This happened after update to latest camera raw update. Any advice help or assistance would be appreciated?
