Photoshop Elements: PSE 9 freezes when sending email

Photoshop Elements 9 freezes when trying to send pictures in e-mail --- either as attachments or as photomail. Everything works fine up until the final screen when the pictures are prepared for sending -- then the spinning circle appears and the program freezes and will not respond or sometimes crashes altogether. Only way out is to close the program with Task manager. This happens using both Adobe email service and/or Windows Mail. PSE 7 worked OK. This failure occurs using WIndows Vista SP1 64-bit and PSE 9.

Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling; installing when Windows in safe mode; removing prior versions; no luck!

Please try running your Organizer in compatibility mode. Following are the steps:

- Close Organizer if open.
- Locate 'PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe'. By default it is present at '%programfiles(x86)%\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\'
- Select the file and right click and select 'Properties'
- Switch to 'Compatibility' tab
- Select check box 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
- Select 'Windows XP SP2. Click 'OK' (See the screenshot)
- Launch Organizer and try email workflow once again

Oh my... there is no compatibility tab. Not for organizer.exe, not for any program. What am I doing wrong?

Don't know what the problem was -- but I did get the compatibility tab back. Followed your directions -- running in compatibility mode. -- didn't help! As soon as the program starts to process pictures for email, it freezes and does not respond.

Please try running Organizer as an 'Administrator' here are the steps:

1) Close Organizer if open

2) Locate 'PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe'. By default it is present at '%programfiles(x86)%\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\'

3) Select the file and right click and select Run as administrator (even if you are an administrator)

4) Try the email service again

I have tried running as administrator. I have tried running in compatibility mode. I have even downloaded PSE 10 (remember, I was using PSE 9) - and the same problem occurs. The program freezes when it prepares an email with pictures. Obviously it's something about my Vista setup. More suggestions?

Hi Stephan,

We tried multiple times but we are not able to reproduce the issue.
I'll give it a shot once again and get back to you if I get something.

Tried this without compatibility mode and it worked. Just right clicked the elements9.exe file selected "run as administrator" (even though it showed I was already the administrator) and my picture mail started working properly.

Thank you - I am very frustrated. I tried again to uninstall everything and went back into my program files and manually deleted the PSE 9 files which the uninstaller didn't catch; reinstalled as administrator and tried running with and without compatibility mode, and still ahve the same problem. Help!

Same problem. I am using Windows 7 home edition. Solution was to go to the folder where elements 9 is installed. Scroll down to the elements9.exe file and right click it. (make sure the program is not running when you do this). Select "run as administrator" even if you have already done this. Click yes on the confirmation window that pops up. Start Elements 9 normally and try your email again. I did NOT have to run my program in compatibility mode for this to work. If this doesn't work try rebooting and try sending the picture mail again. Hope this works for you.

I am having the same problem. When I click on the security tab under Elements Organizer 9 Properties, I get an error message which says "the permissions on Organizer are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective." I don't know whether this has anything to do with the e-mail problems, but I also don't see any way to switch to running as administrator. As in the original posting, I am using Elements 9.0 on Vista with service pack 2. I'd be willing to upgrade to Elements 10, but not if it doesn't solve the problem.
