Elements 10 Organizer: painfully slow

I can't find anything related to Elements 10 slow performance. Since installing last night, it is unbearable. I'm close to returning it, since it is unusable as-is. I've got W7 and 4GB RAM; dual-core CPU. Performance is terrible for trivial actions (see below - things that were no problem in ELements 6 on the same machine). Files are on an external USB 3.0 drive - but I'm getting killed even when I'm not doing anything to a file.

I'm not even complaining about loading an image to edit - it takes nearly one minute just to open the organizer. Adding a keyword takes nearly 30 seconds. When I launchd it this morning, it began spinning (nearly 10 mintues now and still only 16%) "Updating the Elements Organizer". I'm watching Adobe executables KILL the hard drive.

Could this be a one time initialization of the catalog? Something is horribly wrong here...

I have noticed similar very slow performance from Elements 10. Not much discussion around such issues around here (= are such comments being removed)?

I ended up switching to Microsoft Photo Gallery for organizing files. It is very fast and has all the same basic features as Photoshop Organizer.

The editor itself seems quite responsive, though.
