I have tried to get my message over to Adobe without any success, maybe they might see it on here....and reply.
Dear Sir,
I am a 71 year old amateur user of your Elements 8 program, and here is my dilemma..... my use of this program is purely for my benefit only, adjusting and enhancing my photographs, I am thinking of upgrading to Elements 11 but as I am a pensioner on the basic pension I will only be able to afford one of the downloadable ones available on Ebay.
When I purchased my Elements 8 again from Ebay I gave my Elements 3 to my young niece in South Africa to use and she loves it:- my dilemma is...
1. If I purchase the new one will I be able to pass my Elements 8 onto her to use, i.e. can you tell me how do I transfer to her the ability to install and use on her computer?
2. Does it have to be de-activated from my account?
3. Does it have a licence that has to be changed?
4. Bearing in mind where I purchased it from will this cause me any problems with any of the above?
I can only hope your reply to me will be in the affirmative and suppress my currant doubts, I am in effect acting as your ambassador in passing on your products which will I hope result in word-of-mouth praise for your products.
Yours
KR Blackman

Buying from EBay or Amazon Marketplace can be tricky: much of the software available there is pirated (along with whatever malware the pirates wish to add).

1) If you purchase a new license (full new version), then you can pass along the old license. If you purchase an upgrade, then that is still tied to your initial license (you have one license, plus an upgrade, not two licenses).

2) Yes, you need to deactivate the old copy before uninstalling it from your computer and passing it along. Otherwise your niece might not be able to activate it on her computer.
You can do a license transfer to change the user name and AdobeID associated with the registration of that license.

3) I'm not sure what that means.

4) Yes, if you purchase pirated software, you may run into all sorts of problems. If you purchase a legitimate license, then it shouldn't be a problem.

I hope this helps.

Can you show how we deactivate the old copy and should I uninstall the old one before installing the new one?
How many photoshops can one have in one's own name? ie. if I didn't deactivate any of the old ones?

Your license allows you to install and use it on two machines.
I believe the deactivation is still under Help -> Deactivate...

Is it on Ebay or Amazon marketplace? Then probably not. Some of the pirated packages have what looks like authentic boxes and disks (unless you look very closely at the details).

Then where do I go to purchase one of these Elements 11? as already stated I cannot afford a brand new version of Elements/Photoshop, and as Ele 11 seems to do what I want but is now a good few years old where would I get it except Ebay/Amazon at a reasonable price?

As for deactivation.. when I looked on the help page it stated that I would have to download forms to fill in, but I think it also stated that you needed proof of purchase and Ebay was not recognised as one of these, this left me thinking that it is a catch 22, you could register it to me quite easily but you can't de-register it because it doesn't for fill all of your criteria?
