Elements Organizer not finding correct creation date

Elements organizer is incorrectly sorting my photos by "date modified" or using an incorrect date for "date created" for some files, but not others. It's mostly PNG and MOV files from an iPhone or iPad, but not all of them. Some are JPG files and I haven't identified if they were all shot with an iPhone or if some are from my Sony camera, but I think they're from my iPhone. The computer recognizes the creation or shot date as does Adobe Bridge and Apple's Photos app. I've used EXIFTOOL to review the metadata on a few files and can't even find the date elements organizer is using as the photo/video date in some cases (but I recognize it as the date the files were transferred from an old computer to a new one as it was applied to many files). I'm on macOS Catalina 10.15.4. running Elements Organizer 2020 v18 20200105.m.139301. Having recently paid for an upgrade, it's very disappointing that I could have just used Apple's app and already be done with re-organizing my photos. There are thousands of files and it will take days to update manually. I see history here and on adobe support community with similar issues going back for many years without resolution. Should I give up and use another app? Any chance on getting my money back?
