Elements 2018 - "Save" steps aren't listed in History panel while editing. How to keep track of them?

While editing a file in Expert mode in Elements 2018, it seems that "Save" actions are no longer listed in the History panel as they were in previous versions.

Is this the way PE 2018 is supposed to work? If so, is there any way to keep track of Save actions so that the user can go back to a particular saved state while editing the file?

Thanks!

I don't understand which 'Save actions' you are referring to?
Which previous versions?

Thanks for your questions for clarification.

I'm referring to the File/Save" and "Save As" functions executed during the editing process.

Previous versions such as Elements 11 and 14 listed these steps in the History panel along with all the other editing steps. Elements 2018 doesn't list these steps so I find it difficult to determine where previous saved states are while editing.

Thanks...

Yes, now I do understand and I can confirm the change from PSE15 to PSE2018.
I have never seen it mentioned anywhere and I would never have noticed it.
The mention of 'save' or 'save as' steps in the history does not help me. I prefer to create kinds of 'snapshots' by using the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Alt E. I name those layers with detailed names to record the action parameters and I can hide or display those 'snapshots'. I do regular 'saves' in a long picture editing, but i don't care when they happen in the process. If I 'save as' different versions I may add captions or notes to the file in the organizer, but I very rarely need it.

I'm not sure if it's the same issue, but I have PSE 15. When I go to save it, the different versions aren't there anymore. When I am looking at my pictures in the organizer, I see an NEF even after I have saved it as a jpeg. The only way I can see the edited version is when I look at the file saved on my computer.

Thanks for your detailed explanation of your approach. I tried the shortcut in Windows but it doesn't produce snapshot layers in the History panel as far as I can see. If you're able to provide any more guidance or alternatives, I'd appreciate your help.

Yes, that shortcut for the creation of a composite layer combining all active layers is little known.
You create this composite layer on the top of the layer stack and the step is recorded in the history panel as 'stamp visible'. Not easy and hardly documented.

With your additional information in mind, I gave the shortcut another try and it worked just as you described. Neat trick! Many thanks for helping me out with this issue.
