Elements 12: Sign-in problem (Win Vista)

I installed Elements 12 on my PC running Vista. When I try to open the editor a box says I need to sign in. When I sign in, the box grays out and the timer with the 4 little squares starts going around without end. It doesn't matter how long you wait. Also, the only ways to close it is with the Task Manager or rebooting. Any ideas???

Usually this is caused by a firewall or Adobe.com domain being listed in your host file.

Thanks for you response.
I followed your suggestions: The Host file appears to be OK.
The GlobalSign Root Ca shows "ENABLE ONLY FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES". A number of boxes are checked but I have no way of knowing which are supposed to be checked.
Bottom Line, the problem still exists -- I can't sign in.
