What do you mean "kicked out of the program"? Is it crashing?

Me too. It keeps telling me the catalog won't load because it's "in use by another program". Sickening!

Obviously not the problem of Deb Wisker, the original poster.
I assume you get the message even after rebooting and restarting the Organizer. What I would try in your case would be to duplicate the catalog. First you need to know where the catalog is located on your computer. Since by default it's in a hidden location, I would create a new catalog by opening the Organizer while keeping the shift key pressed. You get a dialog with the option to 'repair' the catalog (may be worth a try) or you can create a new empty one. Once in the new catalog, use the menu Help/System Info to read the location of your catalog (which depends on your OS and PSE version).
In the Explorer/FInder, find the faulty catalog and create a copy of the whole catalog folder with a new folder name. In that duplicate folder, after shutting the organizer, double click the file : 'catalog.pse11db'. That should open the organizer with the duplicated catalog.

Yes, it is crashing, but only in Editor. I get through 2-3 images and then I get a message that Microsoft is shutting it down due to an error. Thanks. I'll go through these steps you described.

Deb Wisker, as I said in my post, my answer was to Algernon Ward problem, which is obviouly different than yours.
It's difficult to help you without more information about your Windows version and your system. Have a look at this blog:

I ended up having to call GeekSquad, as I got a message that I had no antivirus or malware coverage. Not sure what happened, but it got rectified.
I am still having problems, but I googled and saw that others do too. I'm going to work on some photos again tomorrow and see how it goes.
thanks for the blog link.
