Photoshop: El Capitan compatibility, issue with keyboard shortcuts and tools

I am currently working on OS X EL CAPITAN Version 10.11.5 and using CS6 Version 13.0.6 x64 Photoshop. I have heard they are not compatible. I have installed the plug in and always update photoshop and my computer system when updates are available. I have even reset my preferences back to default but no luck.

The problems I am having in Photoshop are my tools are not working properly. My key commands are not working. They don't recognize what tool I am trying to use.  Especially when I press E it comes up as the background eraser tool and the magic eraser, never the regular eraser tool. Also when I click on a tool it will come up as another tool. For example, a very common problem is when I click the arrow or marquee tool it comes up as the hand tool. I cannot do anything from there because it won't let me even switch to another tool. Therefore I have no choice but to close Photoshop and restart my computer. Which does not even make a difference 95% of the time. When I go back into the file it does the same thing. Also, when I use the type tool it lags and will start typing symbols. (I have had this issue in Illustrator as well which is also CS6). Lately the latest issue has been when I click on a layer it won't recognize that I am on that layer. It will not be 'highlighted'. No layers will.

I want to add I am not working on huge files and majority of these files are tiffs.

If anyone knows of any possible solutions please respond!!

Thank you!

Hi Kelli, CS6 should work with El Capitan fine. It sounds like there's some sort of other system level thing causing a conflict.

I would try these basic troubleshooting steps, including running in safe mode and from a new admin user account:

I'd also check out this document: Keyboard shortcuts stop working in Photoshop: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-stop-photoshop-mac.html

Hi Jefferey,

That you for the advice!  Unfortunately I am working on a network so I don't believe I can work on a safe mode. I will check out the keyboard shortcut link though.
