Photoshop: Duplicate Image Makeover.

If I'm not mistaken, the 'Duplicate Image' function and dialog box has not changed since it's introduction. Maybe it's a time for a makeover?

I suggest to add following functions to an existing Duplicate Image dialog box:

- Number of duplicates
- New Name
______________
- Resize (similar to Image Size dialog box)
- Crop/Canvas size (similar to Canvas Size dialog box)
______________
- Rotate (similar to Image Rotation dialog box)
______________
- Color Mode
- Bit depth
______________
- Merge all Layers
- Flatten image
______________
- Remove All Alpha Channels
- Remove Paths
______________
- Apply all Masks
- Remove All empty Layers
______________
- after duplicating - save a Copy as:

Most of these steps likely to be done after the simple image duplication using existing Dialog Box anyway, so being able to do all or most 'on the fly' would speed up the process and increase productivity tremendously.

Would this make Photoshop even better product? What do you think?

Regarding »- Merge all Layers«: »Duplicate Merged Layers Only« should be fine as is, but maybe it could be made sticky.

Many of your proposed changes would unnecessarily clutter the dialog in my opinion and are better off as separate steps, but the option of having the duplicate saved instantly on creation seems a good idea.

If you think your workflow would benefit from such an expanded dialog you might want to look into Scripting.

I agree. Scripting - or even actions - is probably the answer to Roman's needs. There's a reason these commands are separate steps. It's far too many options for the average user - it's become overwhelming.

Christop/Jeffrey - thanks for your comments.
The reason for my proposal to expend the outdated Duplicate Image dialog box is simple - to streamline the process and save few steps while performing the image duplication.

I agree, the Image Size, Canvas Size, Color Mode and Rotate Canvas functions can be accessed individually, but there is a clear benefit to perform these operations while duplicating image. This seems intuitive and time saving.

Please also take a look at the bottom of my mocked up palate. I believe the options to remove all Alpha Channels, Layer and Vector Masks, remove all empty layers and disabled Layer Masks - AUTOMATICALLY ON THE FLY - would provide tremendous time saver.

The Duplicate Image is definitely due for a makeover.

I encourage the Adobe guys to consider.
