For some reason I am duplicating all of my photos when I import. I need to get rid of 15,000 duplicates and change whatever setting is making the duplicate... Is there a way to select all duplicate photos and remove the duplicate??HELP!!

Under File Handling do you have “Make A Second Copy To” checked?

No, that can't be the reason, nor the solution. That only makes a backup of the imported images. The second copy is not added to the catalog.

Are the images really duplicates, or did you perhaps shoot raw+jpeg and checked the option that Lightroom should treat the jpegs as separate files?

Are there duplicates in LR, or just one copy in LR but two on your hard drive? If the latter and there was already one copy on your hard drive before import, and if you are  choosing "Copy" in the top center in Import, that would explain the duplication -  Add would be the appropriate choice for LR Classic to just reference the versions already on your hard drive.

I had the same issue in new LR CC (Not classic)   but it is not consistently happening  some folders import correctly only the missing files, while others import the whole directory , even when the pictures are already in the catalog.  It feels like when there is double number in the file  DCS_123_11.jpg or a double space DSC 123 11, but not 100 sure about occurrence.

I got this problem today for the first time in LR Classic CC on the MacBook. Never had it in the former version. The duplicates are shown only in the catalog view when the parent folder or any higher folder is selected. If I select the folder in question no duplicates are shown. The number of files in the directory is shown correctly. If I tell LR to erase on of the duplicates from catalog _and_ from the hard disk the catalog shows only one photo afterwards but the file is still on the hard disk.

BTW: the import is much more slower than in LR 6. There is no progress in speed anywhere.
