Hi everyone! I'm a designer, Photoshop user since 1998, and I have a little request for a very basic feature. I must say, I never used 100% all the software features, I know all the stuffs, but it's a lot of tools, indeed! So, I've searched my soft version and made a little research around the web to make sure this option isn't in other versions, I didn't found. Well, there's the thing: when I make a selection of a piece of an image, I want to send it to a new layer, BUT I don't want the object move from where it is, just separate in another level. What I always have to do is copy that part to a new layer and then go back delete/clear the original. Sometimes clear the original part, select it again, it's a very annoying task. (Here you would say "but you can select the new image to select the one under".. yes, BUT it never makes a fine job, always leave some dirty in the original image)
So, you can see that a lot of work tho do a simple task. I do it a lot of times. There could be a simple context menu at right click, when you select the object, an option saying "Drop it to a new layer", and DONE! Doesn't need to move the piece a pixel! Would be so good... Thanks a lot! [And I'm really sorry if this option already exist in some version that I don't know.]

Command/Control-Shift-J already does what you are describing.
Command/Control-J just copies the selection to a new layer.
Adding the option/Alt key modifier will also prompt you for the name and options for the new layer.
